Andy Vernon-Jones (Co-Director) is an artist and educator with 13 years of experience working with young people in schools, summer camps and daycare centers. He has taught art and photography at South Brooklyn Community High School, Friends Seminary, Deerfield Academy Summer Arts Camp and City Art Lab. He also spent 5 years as a counselor with at-risk high school students in Red Hook, Brooklyn. He is currently completing a masters degree in Visual Art Education at City College of New York. Andy's deep belief in youth development and community building comes through in his teaching and in his photography, which has been exhibited around New England and New York. In 2011 he published the photography book Here in Red Hook. He holds a BA in Studio Art from Wesleyan University.
Tatyana Tenenbaum (Co-Director) is a multidisciplinary artist with 10+ years of experience working with children of all ages in the disciplines of dance, music, and visual art. Tatyana loves to bring her unique performance practice to children, and has even produced an intergenerational performance evening "Improvisers Aged 16 to 30" at The Manhattan Children's Theater. She has taught children in Brooklyn, Queens, Massachusetts and internationally--through the Arts & Literacy Program of Brooklyn, The Greene Hill School, Deerfield Academy, and CLASSCLASSCLASS (NYC). She is continually growing her personal artistic practice through the integration of intergenerational models of learning and play. Tatyana has been the recipient of grants from the Brooklyn Arts Council and the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. She holds dual degrees from Oberlin College & Conservatory in Dance and Music Composition.
Co-Directors Andy Vernon-Jones and Tatyana Tenenbaum have been collaborating as artists and educators since 2005. Their shared passion for pushing the boundaries of arts education have led them to create a number of intergenerational art projects, performances, and photo installations with youth. They are super excited to be joining forces this summer as Co-Directors of Odyssey Summer Arts.
Ryan Trott (Guest Teaching Artist) is an artist, musician and educator who spent this last year working with 3rd graders in the Guggenheim Learning Through Art program. He holds a Bachelor's of Music from Suny Purchase and is currently completing a master's degree in Art Education at the City College of New York. Ryan records music under his own name and with his band Family Trees, and has his first solo exhibition of paintings and mixed media at the Honeycomb gallery in Charlottesville, VA this summer. His creative pursuits inform a holistic idea of art education that he seeks to explore with students, integrating elements of chance, freedom, movement, sound and collaboration into the art-making process.
